The shop: Engströms Urmakeri in Jönköping

Right in the middle of Jönköping lies Engströms Urmakeri. With new premises filled with interesting brands, and a watchmaker's that started back in 1812, it was high time for Eqotime to pay a proper visit.

At the end of 2020, Engströms moved into their new premises from their previous shop which was located in another part of the city, and now they are located on Östra Storgatan which is one of Jönköping's main streets. Customers are now met by a large shop filled with everything from Tissot and Seiko to Rolex and Tudor.

A family business

Fredrik, who is now CEO and runs Engströms Urmakeri, took over the baton a few years ago. His father ran the company from the 70s onwards, and his father in turn had run the company since the 30s after having been employed at Engströms Urmakeri since 1909. The watchmaker's itself is one of Europe's oldest and started in 1812 in Norra Unnaryd making and repairing table clocks and floor clocks.

Parts of Engströms' history are shown in the shop, old service books, catalogues and even an unused dress watch from the 50s can be viewed in dedicated displays. A whole lot of memories were found when the shop move took place at the end of 2020 from the previous premises that Engströms had had since the early 80s.

New location

The new premises are located in an older building right in the city centre. The premises have previously housed, among other things, a bank, and because of that the shop is large with high ceilings and different sections and display cases for the brands.

Watchmaking with broad expertise

Engströms has three employed watchmakers, and they take on everything from bigger service jobs to battery and strap changes. The premises are completely new so the service section has been upgraded and is state of the art. The watchmakers are on hand for matters concerning all the brands that Engströms is a retailer of, which is quite a few.

Watch brands for every taste

One of Engströms Urmakeri's strengths is that they have a clear breadth of brands across different price ranges with Rolex as the crown on top. But there are plenty of alternatives at different price points, which means that both a hardened collector and a person who is going to buy their first quality watch can find something under the same roof.

Fredrik believes it is important to have a proper range. Engströms' catchment area for customers is very large and that means different needs that need to be met. There have also been more customers in the shop since the shop opened at its new address on a more central street. That's why it's important to have many different watch brands to offer, and also jewellery.

We of course took the opportunity to pick out our favourites from the various brands.

Rolex

Engströms Urmakeri is an official retailer of Rolex. We had the chance to take a closer look at some of the heavier models that you rarely see out in the shop windows.

Tudor

One of the editorial team's favourite brands, and there were quite a few watches in from Tudor. Not least the new Black Bay Pro that Eqotime made a hands on article about recently. The new Tudor Black Bay GMT was also in stock during the visit, which is a watch that has been well received among enthusiasts and Tudor fans.

Omega

Engströms has a large range of Omega. We picked out a few favourites.

Breitling

The editorial team's favourite from Breitling turned out to be a 36mm Chronomat with diamonds. If you want other models or larger sizes for that matter, there was plenty else to choose from.

Tag Heuer

Even the classic manufacturer Tag Heuer is available, so we picked out a Monaco ”Gulf” and two colourful Aquaracers that we think are perfect for summer.

Longines

One of the editorial team's favourite manufacturers here at Eqotime. Here with two divers in green tones that we felt needed to be caught on camera. Longines also reportedly has several interesting novelties coming this year.

More watches

We took the opportunity to pick out a few additional watches from some of the brands Engströms sells, with favourites from Oris, Tissot, and Seiko.
