Three watches, three auctions. Our favourites right now!

Eqotime’s editorial team is always scouting auctions on the internet. For the patient there are always nuggets of gold that are worth checking out. Three watches, three auctions is exactly what it sounds like. Wristwatches that are going to be hammered at auction and that we think are worth taking an extra look at. Albin Johansson has found three real treats in the auction offering.

Cartier Santos at Stockholms Auktionsverk

Santos is one of Cartier’s best models. The gold and steel variant in particular with an automatic ETA movement which was manufactured during the 90s is what many would call a modern classic. This item comes with box and certificate. The watch itself has to be described as being in used condition and is missing a pin in the bracelet. We still choose to recommend the handy to take a look since those are simple things to sort out at Cartier in Stockholm (or at your local watchmaker). Well worth the extra work to get a period correct example on the wrist.

The watch is at Stockholms Auktionsverk and is hammered on 16/12

Eqotime’s writer Aleksandar has written a readable overview of the Cartier Santos in particular which you find here.

Longines 3504 flyback chronograph (13ZN)

Longines are known for their chronographs and the in-house movement 13ZN in particular is legendary for the manufacturer and within collector circles. Here we have an item which according to Longines was delivered to a Swedish dealer in 1939. Something that is also confirmed by their extract from the archives. Longines has one of the watch world’s most detailed registers of watches and can via mail tell later owners of their watches when and where the watch was sold which helps a lot in contexts like these. So what we have here is a ref. 3504 with a case in steel measuring 34mm. This is no beginner’s watch, but the condition looks to be completely okay so for the seasoned vintage fox it could be a find.

The watch is at Bukowskis Market and is hammered on 18/12

IWC Aquatimer

Aquatimer is Swiss IWC’s take on dive watches. This item, in steel with an integrated bracelet and a low estimate, is a fun watch that is relatively unusual to see on people’s wrists. The first Aquatimer was produced by IWC during the diving boom in the 60s when many manufactured competed to come up with wristwatches that worked for diving sports. This example is from 2008, measures 42mm and has an automatic movement and is in a condition that means you can just hang the watch on your arm and start using it right away. A perfect choice for the ambitious desktop diver!

The watch is at Kaplans Auktioner’s watch auction and is hammered on 9/1 (after the turn of the year).
