The Swedish watch brand Tidlös has over the past year worked in secret on an exciting release that they presented this week. The watch is their diver's watch "Marin" with a dial in genuine meteorite that the company has worked to get hold of. The watch has been made in five examples where all of them are to make a "space journey" with the help of the Swedish space company Esrange. After this one of the watches will be auctioned off at the venerable auction house Phillips.

Eqotime has in collaboration with Tidlös taken an exclusive look at the watches that have an exciting future ahead of them.

The Tidlös Marin was one of the first models the company launched, which Eqotime wrote about here. A robust diver's watch at 44mm that is delivered on rubber. The watch is designed in classic diver style with a case in stainless steel and the date as the only complication. Tidlös has since the launch of the Marin also swapped out the crown for a cloudberry as a nod to its roots in northern Sweden, as the company is founded and based in Kiruna.

Enter Meteorite

Tidlös has made use to the famous meteorite from Muonionalusta which was discovered in 1906. Few watch manufacturers have used parts of this meteorite for their dials, and the company has after a long development process managed to produce its own dials. In the lower part of the dial you also find the text "Muonionalusta Meteorite 1906". A number of weightier watch manufacturers have made use of Swedish meteorite, and now Tidlös joins that crowd.

A space journey

Not only has the diver's watch been given a dial in meteorite, Tidlös has also planned with the Swedish space company Esrange to let the watches visit space during the autumn of 2023 in connection with the launch of Suborbital Express 4. Tidlös' CEO Henry Salmela argues that "there is nothing strange about launching a diver's watch into space since it handles deep waters down on earth and when the watches come down again it is proven that they work just as well under the surface as up in space".

The watches are sent up with the unmanned rocket SubOrbital Express 4-M16 at Esrange outside Jukkasjärvi.

Auction with Phillips

Once the watches are down on earth again one of them will be auctioned off at the well-known auctioneer Phillips. The watch becomes part of the auction catalogue and will be sent around among Phillips' branches in Hong Kong, New York and London before it arrives in Geneva where the auction is held.

On the wrist

As we have written about before, the Marin is a classic solid diver's watch. With a case at 44mm it is a large watch with proper presence on the wrist. The normal model of the Marin that comes on a bracelet which the editorial staff have tried before wears larger.

That the watch is of the larger kind is however a clear advantage on the Marin Meteorite as Tidlös has managed to fit in a really large dial of beautiful meteorite. Tidlös has kept the same design for the indices, the placement of the date, the hands and also a little cloudberry at the bottom edge of the dial. The cloudberry is charged with lume just like the indices and hands.

Since the dials are naturally produced from different parts of the stone, all five watches have different patterns and each dial becomes unique.
