Cyrus Genève turns ten and celebrates with a fantastic tourbillion

Cyrus Genève was founded in 2010 and therefore turned 10 last year. But because of the global pandemic they could not celebrate then. Instead they are doing it now, a year later. And in style. The anniversary watch Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Saphire is designed by the watchmaker Jean-François Mojon, who is the founder and the creative force behind the brand. Ten examples have been made, and that process was a little tricky because they chose to make the case in sapphire crystal. Eqotime's Britta Rossander tells you more about the Cyrus anniversary watch.

Cyrus Genève was founded in 2010 and therefore turned 10 years last year. But because of the global pandemic they could not celebrate then. Instead they are doing it now, one year later. And with a vengeance. The anniversary watch Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Saphire is designed by the watchmaker Jean-François Mojon, who is the founder and the creative force behind the brand. Ten examples have been made and that process was a little finicky since they had chosen to make the case in sapphire crystal. Eqotime’s Britta Rossander tells more about Cyrus' anniversary watch.

In Norway, Tidemann Luxury Watches is the retailer of Cyrus with Tom Andre Tidemann, the firm's CEO, musician and Heavy Metal lover, at the head. He has arranged for his friend and musician, the Japanese American Matthew Kiichi Heafy, to be an ambassador both for Cyrus and for his own company Tidemann. In Sweden we have just got a distributor of the brand, Precious Time, who last week held a presentation of Cyrus. Something we also reported on here at Eqotime. The watches feel handsome, innovative, rather classy, a little crazy and hopefully they will shortly be available in Sweden too.

Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Saphire

The anniversary watch is special to say the least. The dial is three-dimensional and has a transparent sapphire crystal case (44 mm) that makes the movement visible from all angles. The case in sapphire crystal is said to have been a challenge in manufacturing. The complex shapes required the use of small tools, which makes it time-consuming. The polishing too required many hours of work. A work that required caution since the hard character of the sapphire can make the edges crumble under pressure. If that happens, all you can do is start over from the beginning again.

The tourbillon cradle sits in the middle of the dial on a vertical axis at a 90 ° angle and is placed in an arch of gold. The arch is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's self-supporting bridge. To see it placed that way is different to say the least. Perhaps it is inspired by Fisker's first electric car where the battery stood on end? The bridge construction divides up the dial with hours on one side and minutes on the other. Both get a retrograde display that way and the arbic numerals are luminous against a black background. The seconds are shown up on the tourbillon carriage between the two rails and are visualised in intervals of five. The double crowns of the case are in rose gold.

Between the two arches on the tourbillon bridge at 12 o'clock sits a black 5 mm large DLC-coated spherical ball with a display for the power reserve in intervals of 1-4 days. The movement's has at full winding 100 hours of power reserve. The case's sapphire crystal glass is domed, anti-reflective and 1.2 mm thick. In the case sits the in-house movement CYR625, which thanks to the case in sapphire crystal can be seen from all directions.

The grey-toned bridges of the movement are decorated with a sunray pattern in satin finish and the ring of the case back in sapphire crystal is engraved with the inscription ”10 years CYRUS – Est. 2010 ”. The white bracelet has a clasp in gold and the watch is water resistant to 30 metres.

The case consists of 29 parts in sapphire crystal, the crown at 3 o'clock is for winding and adjusting the time. The crown at 9 o'clock is for the hour seting – a press gives increases the setting by one hour.

Klepcys Vertical Skeleton Tourbillon Saphire has ref no 539.506.ZG.A and the dizzied price is 245 000 CHF, which corresponds to about 2 200 000 Swedish kronor.
