Swedish watchmaking art meets Scandinavian aviation history when Sjöö Sandström and SAS begin a new collaboration. To mark the airline's 80th anniversary, two limited models are launched where the design draws inspiration from the world of aviation – and where the seconds hand has been manufactured from aluminium from a retired SAS aircraft.

When Scandinavian Airlines celebrates 80 years in the air during 2026 the company does it together with Sjöö Sandström, which at the same time is appointed official timekeeper for SAS. To mark the collaboration the Swedish watch brand presents the collection Limited Edition SAS 80 Years, consisting of two special editions with clear connections to the aviation industry.
Common to both models is a dial design inspired by the turbine blades in modern jet engines. The colour scheme draws influences from SAS' visual identity, while the most special detail is found in the seconds hand. It has namely been manufactured from aluminium from the retired SAS aircraft Astrid Viking, which previously flew transatlantic routes for the airline.
The watches are manufactured in Stockholm and are equipped with sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment as well as the crown characteristic of Sjöö Sandström positioned at two o'clock for increased comfort on the wrist.

Jubilee Steel Limited Edition SAS 80 Years
The first model in the collection is the Jubilee Steel, an elegant and easily worn quartz model developed for everyday use and travel. The watch is offered in two sizes, 40 mm and 32 mm, which means that it suits a broad spectrum of wrist sizes.
The case back is engraved to mark the SAS 80th anniversary and the model is produced in a limited edition of 300 examples.
Price: 14 900 kronor.

Royal Steel Worldtimer Limited Edition SAS 80 Years
The second anniversary model is built on Sjöö Sandström's well-known Royal Steel Worldtimer. Here an automatic movement is combined with the possibility of keeping track of several time zones, a function that feels particularly fitting in a watch developed together with an international airline.
Just like the Jubilee Steel, the Worldtimer model also has a dial inspired by aviation's turbines, a seconds hand manufactured from aluminium from Astrid Viking and the ergonomically positioned crown at two o'clock.
The Royal Steel Worldtimer is offered in two sizes, 41 mm and 36 mm, and is water resistant to 10 ATM. The model is produced in a limited edition of 300 examples.
Price:
41 mm: 30 100 kronor
36 mm: 26 200 kronor

The collaboration between Sjöö Sandström and SAS feels in many ways obvious. Both brands are associated with Scandinavian design, technical precision and international travel. By integrating material from a historic SAS aircraft, Sjöö Sandström has moreover created an anniversary collection that offers a concrete connection to the airline's history.
The result is two limited models that unite Swedish watchmaking art with 80 years of Scandinavian aviation – and that literally carry with them a small part of SAS' history on the wrist.
