REM-straps, new store with a fun take on watch straps
The range of watch straps is enormous. And there are plenty of online shops selling watch straps at every conceivable quality and price level. A note in the margin is that the range in many Swedish shops is fairly similar, if good. That is why it felt extra fun last week when the newly opened web shop REM Strap launched. A shop focused on Swedish-made watch straps and with an approach all its own to how the straps are shaped. Eqotime has taken a quick look.

A note in the margin is that the range in many Swedish stores is fairly similar, if good. That's why it felt extra fun when the newly opened webshop REM Strap launched last week. A store with a focus on Swedish-produced watch straps and with a very own take on the design of watch straps. Eqotime has taken a quick look.
REM-straps was started by the two watch enthusiasts Totte el Siddig and Roger Clementz who got to know each other on a watch forum. When they decided to start up the business they had great use of Totte's background as an AD/designer and Roger's background as an engineer. Two competencies that were needed to put the shared vision into action.
Unique laser engraving
– The vision is to do something more with the watch straps. To let the history of different watches flow out over the strap. There are so many exciting connections between different phenomena, events and moments with strong ties to wristwatches. So many stories to tell, says Totte.
All straps at REM Straps are "made to order" and all production takes place in Sweden. For example, they only use strap leather from Tärnsjö Garveri. The straps are then processed in Nissafors and Olofström before being engraved and sewn in Lund. And it's precisely the engraving that is the special thing about REM. The straps are laser engraved and to begin with they have selected a number of ready-made motifs where the Moon DNA strap is one of the ones that stands out the most.
– Our Moon DNA is the strap for all Speedy-lovers, Totte tells us. In the color we use to color Neil Armstrong's quote and footprint we have mixed in ground fragments from four moon meteorites. So you carry the moon on your wrist, literally.
In addition to the moon strap they have a number of other ready-made designs. Each with its own theme and exotic names like Gun Barrel and Nippon Legends.
In addition to the laser engraved straps they also offer a collection of unengraved straps which they have chosen to call Plain Swedish.
– Our unengraved straps come in several different colorings, and you can also choose between 27 different colors of stitching so the matching possibilities are almost endlessa, Totte continues.
