In Mall of Scandinavia Rado has opened up its first pop-up shop in the Nordics where you can take a closer look at large parts of their collection, from the super thin True Thinline models to the latest and limited version of the Captain Cook entirely in High-Tech Ceramic.

The shop is open until 15 January and when buying a watch you also get a gift in the form of a Rado winder or a bag. In a collaboration with Rado we took the chance to visit the pop-up shop and take in the watches, because there is quite a lot to look at.

An exclusive opportunity to take a look at the new Captain Cook

Rado's Captain Cook has, since it was relaunched in 2017, come in several different sizes and materials. Earlier this year we took a look at their High-Tech Plasma Ceramic version which you can read about here. The latest limited edition is probably the coolest so far and in the shop there is now the first and so far only example in all of Scandinavia to take a closer look at.

This limited edition (1962 pieces, of course) is the first Captain Cook that is equipped with their new movement calibre R808. Unlike the earlier skeletonised versions of the Captain Cook which partly had a different movement but also less visibility thanks to a tinted sapphire crystal, in this new model you get a completely different view into the mechanics.

The watch and the bracelet are made entirely in black High-Tech Ceramic, which the bezel and crown are too for the first time. They have also implemented a new technique that is meant to reduce the amount of fingerprints on the case and bracelet. The new movement is tested in 5 positions (normally 3) and has an impressive power reserve of 80 hours. The price tag is set at 53,500kr which feels very reasonable given partly its high quality and choice of materials but also with a completely new and fresh movement that is exclusive to Rado.

Rado's ceramic bracelets and cases are made in a process that they have developed over many years and which from a technical perspective is very advanced and where the end products, i.e. their bracelets and cases have a very good feel to them. More about the process and the material you can learn about during a visit.

Captain Cook

In addition to the latest limited model we also took the chance to look at a few more watches from the Captain Cook range, a collection that is becoming ever more important for the brand.

Among other things one of the models in bronze, here with a blue dial and details as well as a matching NATO strap:

And also this green-dialled Captain Cook in steel on a smart ”Beads of rice” bracelet:

A bit of other odds and ends from the collection:

True Square

One of Rado's best-selling models is their True Square. A highly interesting model in white and black ceramic with a skeletonised dial and with or without discreet diamond indices:

True & True Thinline

Another glimmering model with that sits exceptionally pleasantly on the wrist with its thin ceramic case of only 5mm – True Thinline in High-Tech Plasma Ceramic and white ceramic:

The model is also available in automatic execution in the model series True, still thin but not as thin as the True Thinline and here with a skeletonised dial in black ceramic.

Large selection of watches to take a closer look at

They have not spared the powder when it comes to the selection of watches to get better acquainted with. There is a large selection of other models from the Captain Cook series but also quite a lot of other goodies for the wrist. In total there are watches from five of their model series, from tougher diver's watches in bronze to pared-back ceramic watches.

Rado are of course known for their ceramic watches and they do it with flourish. From slightly rawer models with skeletonised dials to playful and colourful models from the well-known architect Le Corbusier's colour palette.
