The shop: Erikson Urhandel

In an ever tougher situation for several of Sweden's watch shops, we at Eqotime want to help draw attention to some of our favourite retailers of wristwatches. Over the coming weeks we will therefore highlight some of the shops we think can be worth a visit, either physically (in accordance with the current recommendations from FHM, of course) or a visit online. Today we drop in on Erikson Urhandel in Sundbyberg where we meet the owner Richard Dahlgren.

Who are Eriksson Urhandel?

– Our shop Erikson Urhandel was established as early as 1923 and has since then been in the same spot on Sturegatan in Sundeberg, Richard tells us. I am the second generation running the shop and took it over in 1988, and in 2019 we were chosen as Entrepreneur of the Year in Sundbyberg 2019.

Which brands do you work with and what does your range look like?

– The range currently consists of Omega, Breitling, Sjöö Sandström, Tag Heuer, Sinn, Graham, Anonimo and Tissot. We are also one of few shops in Sweden that offer Omega's jewellery. Otherwise we have a good range of leather straps from Hirsch, watch boxes from Rapport and winders from Modalo, Richard tells us.

Some of the brands in the shop belong to the slightly more unusual ones, which attracts customers from larger parts of the country than just Stockholm, and having these in the range reflects in many ways Richard's genuine interest in watches.

– Yes, it is fun to be able to offer slightly more special brands, Richard reckons. At the same time I think the brands in our range complement each other well and we represent them all equally towards our customers,

Besides the role as retailer, Eriksons also offer other watch-related services. – I am a valuer, appointed by the Chamber of Commerce, so we also offer written valuations of wristwatches, Richard continues. Our watchmaker on site also takes care of wristwatches for, for example, lighter servicing, battery chages, pressure testing and ultrasonic cleaning. We of course also take in wristwatches of the brands we sell for complete service and repair jobs.

How do you think about services and sales at a distance in times of social distancing and quarantines?

– We have a website from which it is possible to buy everything we sell in the shop. What we might not have in stock we of course order in, and there everything is delivered free of shipping, Richard tells us. Recently we have also launched a pre owned service where we offer a range of pre-owned wristwatches that have been quality assured by us.
