Record Omega at Phillips
It was a near perfect Omega Speedmaster from 1957 that sold for a record price at auction house Phillips. The very rare model was made only between 1957 and 1959 and was hammered down at the slightly fantastic world record price of CHF 3,115,500, which is almost 30 million Swedish kronor. But what model was it that sold? Eqotime has taken a look.

The unusual Speedmaster has the reference CK2915-1 and comes from the first batch of Speedmasters that was launched in 1957 as part of Omega's trilogy series of watches for specialists. Alongside the Speedmaster, the Railmaster and the Seamaster 300 model were also released. A trilogy that was relaunched in a lovely collector's version a few years ago as a direct tribute to the original trilogy.
This example is dated to the 22nd of November 1957 and is thus one of the very first examples. As the icing on the cake it has a lovely chocolatey tropical dial. Add broad arrow hands, a metal bezel and the hotly sought-after slightly oval O in the Omega text on the dial and the dish becomes even tastier. On the inside Omega's legendary 321 movement naturally turns.

A fantastic reference of the Omega Speedmaster, albeit at a crazy price, which is rightly usually referred to as ”the grail” among Speedy collectors.
