Omega opens 2022 with a lovely Speedmaster in gold

As its first release for 2022, Omega presents a new version of its classic Speedmaster. The new version is an updated version of the Speedmaster Calibre 321 and is entirely in 18k Canopus gold, complete with vintage-inspired details. The inspiration for the watch was taken from the very first Speedmaster, the CK2915-1 that was launched in 1957. The new version is, to say the least, a worthy tribute to the original, just in time for the 65th anniversary. Eqotime has cast an eye over the newcomer.

As the first news for 2022, Omega presents a new version of its classic Speedmaster. The new version is an updated version of Speedmaster Calibre 321 and is entirely in 18k Canopus gold complete with vintage-inspired details. The inspiration for the watch was taken from the very first Speedmaster, CK2915-1 which was launched in 1957. The new version is, to say the least, a worthy tribute to the original just in time for the 65th anniversary. Eqotime has taken a look at the new addition.

This year's first news from Omega feels really promising. A watch that in size and appearance can seem very laid-back and discreet but which upon closer inspection is a bit of an understated knock out. The case is on the one hand a return to the more modest Speedy size of 38.6 mm but on the other hand a truly luxurious update since case and link are made in 18k gold, or Canopus Gold as Omega themselves call their own white gold alloy.

But it's not just the choice of material that marks that it's an anniversary for the model. It has also been equipped with the classic calibre 321. Overall we were positively surprised by the model. The size feels completely right, the choice of material also feels wonderfully luxurious without being flashy and the whole model feels like a fantastic choice for the connoisseur with all its subtle nods to the very first Speedmaster. Take a careful look at the pictures, there are several cozy easter eggs for the connoisseur.

Add to this a nice box in retro design and the model probably fulfills most wishes a Speedy lover might have. The only catch is probably the price, the list price is set at a good 860 000 SEK, a considerable sum even considering the choice of material. But well, what is a ball at the castle. That it seems to be a truly lovely watch seems to be beyond all reasonable doubt.
