New Omega x Swatch Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon – 1965 Edition

Swatch continues to expand its immensely popular MoonSwatch collection and this time with a model that draws inspiration from the year when the Omega Speedmaster was officially certified by NASA for space missions – 1965. With a classic monochrome look and subtle design details this is a model that clearly flirts with its historical model.

The new Bioceramic MoonSwatch Mission to the Moon – 1965 Edition wears a pared-back and timeless design where the colour palette goes in black, grey and white. The case in Swatch's patented bioceramic material still measures 42 mm in diameter and has the distinct asymmetrical shape that brings to mind the original Speedmaster reference from the 1960s.

The dial is a direct tribute to the original with its classic tricompax layout, while the white seconds hand and the grey sub-dials create a balanced and contrast-rich look. In line with the other MoonSwatch models the watch has a tachymeter scale in white text against a black background, where the “dot over ninety” (DON) is still a given detail.

Under the hood sits Swatch's familiar quartz chronograph movement that drives the seconds hand and the three sub-dials. A clear difference from the mechanical Speedmaster, but at the same time an aspect that has made the MoonSwatch series both accessible and good value.

Like earlier models the 1965 Edition is delivered on a black velcro strap – a practical and lightweight solution inspired by the original straps that were used by the astronauts during the space missions. For anyone who wants to customise their example further there is a wide range of compatible straps.

And speaking of straps – our friends at Wristbuddys have a large range of suitable straps for this model. Check out their collection here: Wristbuddys straps for Omega x Swatch MoonSwatch 1965.

The MoonSwatch phenomenon rolls on and with the 1965 Edition Swatch has created a model that lies close to Speedmaster history. For collectors and enthusiasts who like the idea of a more light-hearted and playful interpretation of an iconic design this is another interesting addition to the series.
