Certina continues its journey within sports watches and now launches the DS-7 Chrono Auto, a model that draws inspiration partly from the padel world but also from the 1970s and its sports watches with an integrated link. Last year Certina debuted this category and we have taken a closer look at the next model in the DS-7 series.

The new DS-7 Chrono Auto comes in a size of 42 mm and the case is made in steel. The case combines brushed and polished surfaces that create a nice contrast and give the watch a modern and sporty feel. The crystal ring is thin and is equipped with a tachymeter scale, and the watch has sapphire crystal both front and back. The crown is protected by crown guards and the chronograph starts and stops with a distinct feel. The watch is delivered with an integrated bracelet in steel, which also has Certina's ”quick-change” system for smooth strap changes. The watch is also water resistant down to 100 metres.

The DS-7 Chrono Auto is available in three colour options: dark blue, green and black. All variants have a grid structure on the dial, which draws its inspiration from the crossed lines of the net on the padel court. At 9 o'clock you find the seconds hand and at 3 o'clock a 30-minute chronograph. The indexes are clear and filled with Super-LumiNova. We took a closer look at the green model, which has a nice shade and which shifts from deep green, almost towards the black end, to emerald green in strong light.

Earlier models in the DS-7 collection have used quartz movements, but with the new DS-7 Chrono Auto Certina takes the step over to a mechanical movement. The model is driven by the calibre ETA A05.231, an upgraded version of the classic Valjoux 7750. The integrated chronograph movement has a Nivachron hairspring that resists magnetism, and offers a power reserve of an impressive 68 hours. The movement ticks at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

With the DS-7 Chrono Auto, Certina takes its sports watch to the next level. The modern design with retro influences, the robust construction and the mechanical movement make this an interesting addition to the brand's sporty range. Whether you are on the padel court or at the office, the DS-7 Chrono Auto is a versatile companion. The model will be available from October 2024 at your local Certina retailer with a list price of 22 800 kronor.
