Rolex Datejust. Kaplans' watch expert Georgios Batselas picks three favourites from the special auction.
On Saturday (21/3) it is time for Kaplans' special auction for the 75th anniversary of the Rolex Datejust. A classic sports model from Rolex that has had lasting popularity ever since it was launched in 1945. Eqotime asked the watch specialist at Kaplans Auktioner, Georgios Batselas, to highlight his three favourites.
On Saturday it is time! Kaplans Auktioner then hold their special auction for the 75-year jubilee celebrating Rolex Datejust. A classic sports model from Rolex that has had lasting popularity ever since it was launched in 1945. ROLEX, Oyster Perpetual, Datejust, Chronometer, ”Birch Dial”, Ref nr. 16018,
– This my is my big favourite, says Georgios. I actually think that the Datejust in gold with a jubilee is much better looking than the Day-Date with a President link. Besides it is considerably more unusual. I can also think that these models ought to have a higher value. They lagged a bit price wise compared to for example the Day-Date which has run away more in price. This particular example I like a lot!
ROLEX Datejust ”Tapestry Dial”, Ref nr. 16200,
– This one I like! The most common thing is otherwise that the 36 mm Datejust in a steel execution has white or light dials . It is more rarely that you see dark dials, Georgios continues. That is why this ”Tapestry-dial” stands out with the dark grey colour. I think there is fine harmony between the dial and the Jubilee link which gets a nice break thanks to the smooth steel ring. A really pleasant example that I really like.

– This is actually my colleague Cissi’s favourite, says Georgios. She likes the slightly odd pink dial. I myself think that it gives a more feminine impression which perhaps makes it a slightly more ladylike variant of the Datejust. Perhaps because it is in light pink? Dark pink would probably have worked more on a man. But above all it is pleasant with a slightly bigger watch on the wrist for a girl with 36 mm. Then it is very fun that many women have started to choose both this and larger sizes on their wristwatches
