New Chopard Alpine Eagle 41mm in yellow gold

Yellow gold seems to be onthe way back after many years where watch novelties in rose gold have dominated the industry. Chopard presents a very delicious version of the Alpine Eagle in the 41mm size in yellow gold that goes tone-on-tone all the way. Eqotime takes a closer look.

Earlier we wrote about the new Alpine Eagle models with green dials and also the new size of 33mm. Now they are going all-in on a new Alpine Eagle in 18k yellow, Ethical Gold, with a matching colour on the dial.

Gold, gold, gold

The Alpine Eagle was introduced in 2019 and is Chopard's reinterpretation of their sports watch from the 1980s – the St. Moritz. It was initially made mainly in their Lucent steel but also in a combination of steel and their 18k Ethical rose gold or entirely in the latter of the two.

The range has since then been broadened quite considerably with everything from new sizes, to chronographs and completely crazy variants with a lot of gemstones.

Now they are launching for the first time an Alpine Eagle entirely in yellow gold, naturally also Ethical gold here as well.

The model is Chopard's answer to the big demand that has revolved around sports watches (mainly in steel) with integrated bracelets. The editorial team thinks they have done a good job where they have managed to keep a lot of DNA from the original model the St. Moritz but in a more modern cut. The case measures 41mm and keeps below the 10mm mark with its 9.7mm. Brushed surfaces alternate with polished bevels and centre links, which contributes to a nice play of light and something that wakes up the beholder's eyes (which this version would have done regardless, with or without polished elements…)

The crystal ring is brushed and round with 8 polished screw heads that are taken from the predecessor. The bracelet meets the case seamlessly and the wide polished bevel along the edges of the case runs on out with the sides of the bracelet pieces.

What we on the editorial team like is that they have chosen a dial that goes tone on tone with the case and bracelet, a nice slightly more retro feeling and something refreshing since this version without a doubt could have come with more popular colours, e.g. blue or green. The dial is made in brass and has a gold-coloured tone, as do the hands and indices. The dial is one of the handsomest details on the model and is full of texture and inspired by an eagle's iris. The date window at 4 o'clock also has the same gold-coloured tone as the rest of the dial and blends in nicely.

Through the caseback they proudly show off their in-house movement Chopard 01.01-C with automatic winding and 60h power reserve. Like earlier models the watch is here too water resistant down to 100m.
