Hypercar meets Hyperwatch

With its collaboration with Lamborghini, Roger Dubuis has made yet another watch inspired by the coveted racing cars. Already last year we saw a remarkable result of the collaboration. Roger Dubuis has, through its collaboration with Lamborghini, made yet another watch inspired by the coveted racing cars. Already last year we saw a remarkable result of the collaboration. The watch Excalibur One-off made in a single example and which matched the Lamborghini SC18 Alston. A supercar developed, it too, in a single example for a single customer's private driving on the track.

Mia Litström and I had the opportunity for touch and feel on both watch and car that were shown during the 2019 SIHH in the well-guarded in the booth at the fair. Both car and watch were already sold but lent out for a few days' presentation.

The Excalibur One-off had a mighty case in ceramica of 47 mm in diameter. The design had, just like the car, an aggressive appearance and an eye-catching look. The watch had a semi-skeletonised movement fixed with bridges in carbon fibre and ceramica. It contained among other things double flying tourbillons, jumping hours and Poinçon de Genève. The price was, according to the talk at the fair in January, 1,3 million US dollars. Interesting was that it was not the owner of the car who had bought it but a collector of watches from Dubuis.

The result of the latest joint venture

Now the collaboration with Lamborghini has been turned up and now with the words ”Hypercar meets Hyperwatch”. The car that Dubuis' watch matches this time is Lamborghini's newly developed SCV12, the first car with a V12 engine. A car that is made in a limited edition and may only be driven on the track. It is the most powerful one ever made by Lamborghini with over 830 hp, supercharging at high speed and unsurpassed aerodynamic efficiency according to the manufacturer.

The watch Excalibur Essenza SCV12 has the whole glory with tourbillons at 5 and 10 o'clock as well as bridges clearly visible through the skeletonisation of the movement. Many of the watch's details also follow the car's colour scheme and the green colour shines sharply against black and grey.

Lamborghini is of course known for being able to make custom-ordered supercars and Roger Dubuis aficionados can enjoy the same service. The ultimate thing for a collector with unlimited resources must be to have their watch custom-made and match it with an equally custom-built car.

Special rules

According to today's rules the owners will not legally be able to drive on public roads. The company therefore recommends that customers let the company keep the car in a special garage at the head office in Italy. As an owner you can at any time look at your car via webcam exactly when you want – perhaps instead of a bedtime story. A bit like look but don't touch…

Lamborghini's newly developed SCV12

If one wants to get out and test one's powerhouse, Lamborghini arranges transport to practically any race track in the world. They also provide a professional racing driver who coaches the possibly ignorant owner in how to get the most speed and enjoyment out of their supercar.

They say from the company's side that they Hypercar meets Hyperwatchwill also arrange special events – when corona allows – to let the owners of the Essenza SCV12 be able to meet, enjoy their cars and talk about them in a group.

The production of the cars is limited to 40 examples, the price that is circulating is 3 million € and for the watch no price is mentioned. It is understood that an interested customer can cough up what is required.
