Byrne Watch GyroDial – 4 dials in one

Text: Britta Rossander

Versatility is a fun detail and watches with several sides we have seen from for example Jaeger-LeCoultre with the Reverso and Bovet with Monsieur Bovet. They give two versions of the same watch. The newcomer Byrne Watches gives us four variants of the same watch with its GyroDial model.

The brand is new, independent and founded by John Byrne and his wife Claire. It was during Geneva Watch Days in September last year that they presented their first watch. John Byrne is a watchmaker with a background and education in design and with the first watch under his own name he wanted it to be able to change face several times. It took three years of development in Fleurier to reach a perfect result

Through a system under the dial each hour marker at 3, 6, 9 and 12 makes a jump at midnight. An animation that results in the cubes showing either simple baton markers, Roman numerals, Arabic numerals with an arrow marker or a set of matching numerals. The case in titanium grade 5 is 41.8 mm x 14.18 mm. It has slim lines and the crown sits traditionally at 3 o'clock.

Now Byrne Watch presents a limited edition of 23 pieces of the GyroDial Indo Arabique in Petroleum Green, a colour that is a symbol of paradise in the Arab world and of peace in the Hindu world. ”Indo Arabique” has a brushed green rhodium-plated dial with straight fibres and almost invisible blue, turquoise and slightly purple reflections. The combination gives a slightly hypnotic depth to the dial in with the mysterious green tone. The four cardinal indexes at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o'clock rotate to show Hindu-Arabic, Roman, Arabic numerals or ”phantom” indexes. The change happens quick as lightning and gives the watch a completely new look at every change.

Next year we will probably see a new variant that will be made in 24 pieces since the Byrne couple let the number of watches follow the number of years in the 2000s.

Byrne is represented at the Swedish retailer INDP Watches.
