Seiko is a name that for many enthusiasts within the watch world is associated with precision, reliability and a long history of innovative craftsmanship. Among Seiko's most iconic lines is King Seiko, a collection that from its birth in the 1960s came to symbolise technical excellence and elegant design. In collaboration with Seiko we take a closer look at two different model series where we see a tribute to the past, but with modern precision and aesthetics.

King Seiko KS1969 SJE109/SJE111/SJE113/SJE115

King Seiko KS1969 (references SJE109/SJE111/SJE113/SJE115) is a watch that catches the eye with its elegant design. The watch's shaping is a clear homage to the original King Seiko from 1969, which is noticeable especially in the faceted case and the distinct dial. With its clean lines and pleasant proportions it does not only look good but also wears very nice on the wrist.

The case measures 39,4 mm in diameter and has a thickness of 9,9 mm (43,6 mm in length). The case's brushed and polished surfaces play elegantly against each other and the watch really ”lives” on the wrist. Here there are clear influences from the clean-lined design philosophy of the 1960s, where minimalism and precision were in focus.

The model comes with a range of different dials where we have taken a closer look at the purple and the silvery one. The applied index markers and the sharp hands give a feeling of depth, which heightens the legibility and at the same time reinforces its vintage character.

At the 12 and 6 positions there is the characteristic Seiko logotype and ”Automatic” and ”King Seiko” written respectively. The structure of the dials differs from one another with a bit more texture on the purple one and a more sandblasted structure on the silvery one. The dials and indices look very well worked.

Under the surface ticks a movement that is not only modern, but also a proof of Seiko's continued striving for technical refinement. The watches are equipped with Seiko's calibre 6L35 – an automatic movement that beats with a frequency of 28 800 vph (vibrations per hour). This movement is known for its thinness and reliability, which contributes to the watch being able to keep a slim profile and it has a precision of -10 / +15 seconds per day. The power reserve is 45 hours and the water resistance amounts to 50 m.

King Seiko is a collection that really combines function and design in a way that few other manufacturers can match. By recreating the details from the 1960s King Seiko, but updating with modern technologies and materials, Seiko has managed to create a watch that appeals to both collectors and beginners within the watch world.

It is also worth mentioning that this model is not only a tribute to Seiko's technical heritage, but also to Japanese craftsmanship at large. The precision and care that is put into every detail of the watches reflects the discipline and dedication that permeates Japanese design culture, from watchmaking to architecture and art.

Price 39 950 kronor.

King Seiko KSK 36mm SPB457/SPB459/SPB461

The other new things for the autumn are the models SPB457/SPB459/SPB461. All models in this collection have a case size of 36,1 mm in diameter and a thickness of 11,6 mm (43mm long), which makes them both discreet and comfortable to wear. With their sophisticated design they suit both formal and relaxed occasions excellently. The SPB457 stands out with its green dial, inspired by classic Ivy League style, while the SPB459 has a clean silver tone and the SPB461 impresses with a subtle grey shade.

Inside these models ticks Seiko's calibre 6R55, an automatic movement specced to -15 / +25 seconds per day that offers a power reserve of 72 hours. With 100 meters of water resistance they are moreover robust enough to handle both everyday challenges and more adventurous situations.

The watches are equipped with a fairly sporty link in stainless steel and a hidden folding clasp with push buttons.

With their elegant and subtle details the King Seiko SPB457, SPB459 and SPB461 offer a perfect balance between style and function. The compact case and the reliable movement make these watches an excellent choice for the modern wearer who is looking for a versatile watch.

Whether you choose the grey, green or silver-coloured dial, these models are very well built with good finish and pleasant dials.

Price 24 950 kronor
