Soft, light and shimmering
Van Cleef & Arpels, which makes delicate jewellery with fantastic design and often hidden details, comes out every year with relatively accessible jewellery to celebrate the arrival of spring. This year they have once again let nature take its place in the design through a poetic tribute to both flowers and small wonderful ladybirds. Eqotime's Britta Rossander has taken a look at this year's novelties.

Van Cleef & Arpels, who make delicate jewellery with fantastic design and often hidden details. Every year they release a collection with relatively accessible jewellery to celebrate the arrival of spring. This year they have let nature take its place in the design with a poetic tribute to both flowers and small wonderful ladybirds. Eqotimes Britta Rossander has taken a look at this year's new releases.
The latest Frivole and Lucky Spring series contain fragile flowers in rose gold, diamonds, onyx and carnelians as well as earrings, pendants. Added to this are bracelets with ladybirds where the beloved little figure is almost 1,5 centimetres. It comes either at rest with the wings closed or slightly open as if it were ready to fly.
Flowers in mini format are also included in the Frivole series where there is also a beautiful ”betwen finger” ring with flowers. Flowers whose petals are beautifully cupped. Van Clef et Arpels well known five-petalled signature flower in mother of pearl, with contours of buds in gold on the petals, is of course also present on bracelets and necklaces.
Exquisite ladybird
The ladybird is a constantly recurring minimal little beetle in Van Clef et Arpels desgin. In the 1930s it was a popular charm. And in 2018 they won the category ladies' jewellery watch at the GPHG with an outstanding watch strewn with emeralds. In the middle of the green lavish ”grass” there was a ladybird with wings of rubies and dots on the shell of diamonds. At the same time the gap between the wings and the ladybird's nose was of onyx. If you nudged the little ladybird it was also revealed that it was brooding on a dial.
The gold in a soft pink tone, the ultra feminine style and the thin-thin chains make the new jewellery feel fragile without being delicate. The ring's slightly bent, heart-shaped petals have a pistil in the form of a substantial diamond, as do the matching earrings.
Van Cleefs et Arpels jewellery and of course also the watches on the women's side always have something refined and poetic about them. They do not shout but are sublime in their execution. So far there is no retailer of them in Sweden. The closest we get in the Swedish shops is their fragrances, which do not come cheap either. But if you are waiting for something good you can, as is well known, wait a long time. And I am keeping my fingers crossed that we soon see Van Cleef in a shop in Sweden.
